Can I purchase a US franchise rather than an independent business?

Yes. A recognised franchise can support an E-2 application if all requirements are met, including qualifying ownership, at-risk capital, control, and non-marginality.

What is the minimum purchase price for an E-2 business acquisition?

There is no statutory dollar minimum. The proportionality test assesses the purchase price against the target company's actual valuation and required capital.

Can my spouse work after the acquisition?

A qualifying E-2S spouse may have work authorisation incident to status; the admission record and current eligibility should be checked before work begins.

Can I finance part of the acquisition with a commercial loan?

Potentially, if secured by the investor's personal assets. Debt secured only by the target US company's assets ordinarily does not count toward qualifying at-risk investment.
